Christmas and the Mystery of The Star

For many years, Christmas has been symbolized by many objects. However, one of the most important objects it is “HIS STAR.” This was prophesied in the Old Testament. His Star appeared not once, but twice in the skies above. The first time it shone down upon a group of shepherds who were watching their sheep near Bethlehem. This was the occasion when a strong beam of light appeared so brightly that the shepherds covered their eyes. But they did see what they described as angelic visitors who stepped out of the shaft of light and informed them not to be afraid. The angels told them that they came with good news. Oddly enough, the sheep did neither run nor panic. Rather, they brushed against the legs of the angelic beings to the great surprise of the shepherds.

The shepherds were told to follow the star and when the star ceased its heavenly journey and shone the bright light down to the Earth, it would mark the place of the greatest single event in human history.

Following the delivery of their message, the angelic beings stepped back into the shaft of light and were taken up into the star. They had completed their mission.

The star has created many problems in the minds of theologians over the years. But the star performed its purpose. The shepherds follow the star which came to a halt in the sky above a cave behind an inn which served as a shelter for the animals of the visitors.

Sometime later, the star again appeared in the sky. According to prophecy, it was viewed by three wise men from the East. They too followed the star and they came prepared with gifts for the Christ child. Please note that they did NOT come to the manger, but rather to the home of Joseph, Mary and Jesus. The Christ child was more than one year old when this occurred. In the New Testament, He is called a “young lad,” not a baby.

These men brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh and other rare and valuable treasures to present to Him. They were warmly received by Joseph, Mary and Jesus. Shortly afterward, the star reversed its position in the sky and disappeared over the Western horizon. According to Scroll Number Six, of the Dead Sea Scrolls, these are the events as they truly happened. The appearance and the journey of His Star coupled with the shaft of light and the presence of angelic beings were marks of a true miracle. To this day, astronomers had attempted in vain to explain how a star could travel through the heavens in the manner in which His Star did.
