Poems for the Smiling Heart

Sky of Light

Eyes turn away from the dark
and slide upwards into a sky of light
where glitters a haven of peace

Thoughts of chaos subside
and float back into their homeland
of gentleness, order and elevation

The storm-driven sand tossed and twisted
now sleeps in the silken smoothness
of the approaching dawn

The restless wave hitting the shoreline
quiets and sinks into the sea
now invisible, now complete

The dim underbelly of the overturned leaf
righted by a scampering squirrel
now celebrates its orange glory

With minds of misunderstanding we scurry away
but the hand of the heart brings us back
and lifts us high into a sky of light.
