Life after Death

Question

How will my self experience “life” after my physical body dies?

Answer

There are many good writings upon the theme of life and death for it has been the discussions of humankind since the beginning of time itself. I can only add my perspective to what has been contemplated for centuries.

The idea of the body aging and dying is directly related to our idea of time, which, as we know, contributes to the definition of our third dimensional world (although technically I suppose, time would be considered the fourth dimension). Erase time and you erase a dimension. Erase time as a concept and the body no longer ages. But the correlation between consciousness, time and immortality is another topic.

When we reflect upon the question presented, we are faced with a second question: what is the self? Simply put the self is divided into the lesser self and the greater Self. This lesser self is the active guardian of the ego and is primarily interested physical survival—humankind’s primal instinct. The greater Self lives on a high perceptive plane knowing that all is provided for all. This greater Self, the active representative of the soul, lies within the very vibration of the Creator. It is through our faith, knowingness and appropriate action originating within the Self that not only is physical survival assured, but that it can be transmuted to life eternal. Hence, the great discrepancy—the lesser self fights to survive and the greater Self transforms this argument into the realization that life is forever eternal with or without the physical body.

Our life, physical or not, continues on and on. The common threading is, of course, this greater Self, which is immersed in Divine Consciousness, and which is the ambassador from our soul. This is similar to musical composition. To cultivate harmony, a piece is usually written in a certain musical key. No matter how many melodies, rhythms or instruments are created and used, this key is respected. The continuum in life after death (illustrated by the musical key) is the greater Self, immersed in Divine vibrations as expression of the soul.

Let us consider that there are three principal reasons for existence:

1. to learn and to progress,
2. to give service and
3. to return to Source.

If this is so, then perhaps our experiences of the Self after physical life continues on this same tri-fold path. In relation to the three principal reasons cited above, this means:

1. because we are no longer in physicality, does not mean we relinquish learning or progress. Indeed, we continue forever onwards and upwards.

2. With the assistance of more highly evolved beings, and following their example, we  continue to give service to others, as we do here at this present time in our physical world.

3. The natural gravitation of our souls is back to Source, because that is our home.  And so, as we leave the body, we continue in another vibrational world, unseen by human eyes, to learn and  to progress, to take stock and decide within Divine mind our next step in our spiritual expression.

(It should be noted, that I speak in linear fashion which may not be the case – back to the topic of time!).

Many individuals are not yet fully aware of their greater Sell, while others are quite conscious of their Divine nature and origins.  No matter where we are in our spiritual awareness, we are all reminded that what we reflect in this world, we reflect uponin the next.

Imagine that you are holding an exquisite diamond between your thumb and finger and you are looking down onto the surface of a very calm lake.  Which attracts your attention, the diamond or the thumb?  Quite possibly you are attracted to the diamond for its transparency, light and clarity.  Now think of this precious stone as the greater Self, representation of your soul, and ask yourself, “Through the behavior of my greater Self, how well am I reflecting my soul in the world around me?”  This is a question to be pondered in our physical dimension for its answer will surely have an impact upon us when we vibrate in non-physical form.

If we are up on this beautiful earth for the three principal reasons listed above, and if the greater Self is a continuum linking our experiences and lifetimes like a brilliant golden thread, then surely we can rejoice.  Why?  Because our exploration, our living, progress and assistance will  continue forever forward and upward, into the Light and Love of the great Creative and Cosmic Force of the Source.

Nothing is ever lost.  We are continually gathering and sharing, learning and loving, whether it is in this physical world or beyond it.
